History Of Marine Drive

Marine Drive has an interesting history, this beauty is a result of a failed plan. Sounds strange, right? The story starts in 1919 the Backbay reclamation scheme was started by the British Government in Mumbai. The goal was to connect Nariman Point with Malabar Hill through a lovely path that might be coated with beautiful office buildings, apartment blocks, and public squares corresponding to the Oxbridge quads. 

But in 1920 they realized that they had loopholes in their plan, initially, the project was planned to be built on 1500 acres but a smaller region was only reclaimed because of carelessness and improper planning. 

After this mistake, it is decided to take more than 17 acres of land and complete this beautiful project. This project was done by Bhagojisheth Keer and Pallonji Mistry.

The Queen’s Necklace 

Marine Drive is also known as “The Queen Necklace”, and this name is well-suited for this place because of its mesmerizing views. You can witness the sun coming out of the city and the colorful sky in the morning and also you can see the beautiful sunset. The sun vanishes into the sea and you can enjoy the beautiful view while sitting at the marine drive. 

Marine Drive is the hub of expensive hotels, apartments, and buildings. Houses there are very expensive and beautiful because of the sea-facing balconies and windows. 

Marine Drive witnessed the winning parade of the Indian Cricket Team after the victory in the 2007 and 2024 T20 World Cup. The whole of Mumbai gathered to celebrate the victory of our heroes. The road was filled with fans and supporters.
